FINALLY got to Peconic County Brewing in Riverhead this past weekend. It’s usually very crowded no matter what time of day you go. We took a chance at 5:30 on a Friday and were lucky to squeak in.
If the weather is cooperating I suggest lounging in one of the outdoor seating areas. They do have firepits, which were not lit when we went, but I believe you can request ignition. The expansive deck offers a view of the Peconic River - along with some interesting pedestrians. There were only two of us so we chose to sip at a smaller high top table. If there’s a chill in the air, the interior is open and airy, with soaring ceilings and lots of tables. The acoustics make it a challenge to have a conversation, and if there’s live music you can double the trouble. There’s also usually a wait for spot inside, so you may not have a choice but to bear the elements.
The beverages are self-serve, so we picked out what we wanted and then hubby went in to retrieve. I am usually partial to wine, but I was compelled to try a few brews. Flights are fun for me – I like to work the line down miniature glasses. Keeps it interesting. Had the "Trick or Treat" flight, which was really good and included my fall go-to, pumpkin beer. They have several IPAs on tap for those who like their hops, as well as some ales, an amber, and a Witbier among others.
The food is actually more than decent- we had the flatbread and the wings, both delicious. We saw many people tackling an impossibly big pretzel served with dipping sauces at their tables. Note for next time. For picking there’s a also a charcuterie board and baked clam skillet; if you’re growing hangry there’s a variety of handhelds including burgers, chicken, oyster po’ boy and pulled pork sliders. So you really don’t have to move on to a dinner place.
As far as breweries go this is a must try. Peconic County Brewing is just what downtown Riverhead needed.
